Q.??What was your first entry-level job in your field and how did you get it?

A. Costco Wholesale I started in an entry level position and ended with being the Special order diamond buyer for the company.

Q. Can you tell me a little about your background before coming to DiamondWave?

A. I worked for Costco Wholesale for 18 years and was in the buying dept. I started the Special Order Diamond Program and purchased all high end GIA diamonds and set the standards for diamond clarity, quality and cut that they are still using today.

I have been taught by the best in the industry on what characteristics of the diamond are, what is important.

I left Costco in 2005 for Amazon.com to be the Senior diamond buyer but the fit was not a good fit for me, I found the quality merchandise below the standards of what I wanted to represent.

2006 I took a position with a top diamond site holder in NY and with the crash of the economy I left in Dec 2006

2007 I was hired as the diamond consultant for DiamondWave which had not yet launched. I did all the diamond jewelry buying for the site as I still do today.

July 2007: The site was sold before it could launch. I became the President and took over the progress of having the site go live.

We launched in April of 2008 and have been building the business ever since. I continue to do all the diamond buying and the consulting. We are a small owned company and take pride in our personal attention we can give each customer.

2013 We just re-launched our new and improve user friendly site two weeks ago.

We have access to many castings that are not seen on the site and we have our own designer for one of kinds, if we are able to do it.

Q.??What does your current job entail? Is there such a thing as a typical day?

A. There is not a typical day which I am grateful for if we were doing the same thing day in and day out I would not be so passionate about this industry. Our main focus is our guests that come to see our site and what we offer. My particular job is to be sure the site is running smoothly and that our guests are being taken care of. Since we are a family owned site we have personal service by and we answer each and every email and call our customer back within 24 hours if not sooner.

Q. What are your key selling points over other online diamond vendors?

A. You know they do a great job also; the bigger online companies have been in business since 1998 and have established themselves. One of the differences is that we are a family owned company without the overhead. We cast are items as they are ordered, we don’t have other diamond vendors drop shipping our items. Most of our diamonds are Canadian mined diamonds. We don’t have to be the top selling site in the world we ??want to build our name based on integrity and low costs that we can pass on to our customers. Are settings are MADE IN THE USA we do not outsource the settings.

Q. What is one thing you wish you knew about your industry when you first started out that you know now?

A. How competitive it is; that people will tell you anything and that the most important thing is to be educated on buying diamonds and any jewelry. I pride myself on knowing that even if we do not sell a customer our products that hopefully they walked away knowing more about the product and what to look for in quality.

Q.??Who is one person who changed your professional life for the better?

Ans. There are two women they have taught me not to give up on something I love to do and have a passion for.

Q.??What words of wisdom do you find most valuable?

A. Always take a job bigger than you and be true to who you are with your integrity and values.

Q.??What is one mistake you made along the way and what did you learn from it?

A. Don???t always think the grass is greener on the other side. You may find it was just fine on the side you were on.

Q.??What is the best part of your job?

A. The people! The same person spending $200 on a piece of jewelry for someone may have the same emotion as the one who spent $4k ~ I have spoken to so many people that feel that I become a part of the experience.

Q. What is the most popular combination of the 4C’s selling these days on your site?

A. Round diamonds are by far the most popular but in this economy people want to have quality without going over their budgets. Our staff educates our customers on the cut of the stones, clarity options, color options and what it all means.

Q.??What do you look for when considering hiring someone?

A.??Personality, professionalism and knowledge.

Q. What do you tell people when they ask if it’s safe to buy diamonds online?

A. I let them know that we offer a 45 day money back guarantee, we are not like some sites that sell top brown diamonds, we hand pick each diamond and we make to order. We have a 10 year trade up program for all GIA stones, with no limit of what you have to spend to have this offer.

Q.??What advice would you give to a 20-something with similar aspirations?

A.??If this is an industry you would like to be in then do all that you can to know what you are talking about; be educated so you can stand by what you saying. Sales people often say anything to sell an item. The product will sell itself if it???s a quality item.
